Previously owned by Wild Oats and bought by Whole Foods in 2007. Well-stocked grocery store. Mostly organic produce. Large deli, bakery, and frozen foods sections with many vegan options. Also a fresh salad bar and coffee/tea/juice/smoothie bar with vegan options. Small but well-stocked bulk food section (mostly organic). Eat-in area with takeout containers available. One of the most vegan-friendly place to shop in terms of vegan and gluten-free ingredients for baking. Carries a large variety of teas, coffees, and several kinds of agave nectar. Also carries a large variety of vegan-friendly brands, including Earth Island, Tofutti, Soy Delicious, Turtle Island Foods, It’s All Good/Gardein, Yves Veggie Cuisine, Green Cuisine, Happy Planet, Yoso, and many different milk alternatives, snacks, and desserts. Large selection of vegan-friendly personal care, health and home care products. Also a decent book section in the health department with vegan and vegetarian cookbooks.

A few vegan pasta options available. Karmavore in New Westminster stocks their vegan ravioli. Caution – the counter staff at Raviolino don’t always understand that vegans don’t eat dairy products, so check ingredients carefully.

Much like Capers Community Market but with some more affordable options. Carries vegan Sheese from Bute Island Foods in Scotland (only place in Vancouver we know of that sells the stuff). Large bakery section in-store with a separate gluten-free rice bakery down the street at 2595 West 16th Avenue (not so many vegan options). Bulk food section also similar to Capers.

Then only place on the west side of Vancouver with a large large selection of bulk nuts, seeds, many different types of baking flours, dried beans, and grains, pastas. Large selection of packaged conventional and organic food staples, including flours, grains, beans, and other items not found at other area stores. Some conventional and organic produce available. A good place to find some more unusual ingredients and foods, such as agar powder, wasabi powder, affordable flavoured vinegars, coconut milk powder, tamarind paste, dried sea vegetables, dried fruits. One of the largest selections of boxed herbal, green, and black teas in Vancouver.

The best, albeit sometimes pricey, place in all of Vancouver to buy fresh produce. Many unusual fresh Southeast Asian fruits available here that aren’t easily found elsewhere in Vancouver, such as dragon fruit, lychee fruit, fresh tamarind in the pods, mangosteen, star fruit, kumquats, custard apples, duku/langsat, rambutan, and more depending on the time of year. Many local seasonal produce options as well as out of season imported produce. Many specialty merchants with vegan options, such as Edible British Columbia – they stock vegan Chi Cake, as well as vegan Nanaimo bars.

Open-air market offering fresh locally grown produce (200km or less from Vancouver) from mostly small, organic, family-owned farms. Some artisans and merchants selling dried foods, breads, pastas, and other locally-made prepared foods. A few food vendors and a coffee/tea truck usually at each market. Great selection of fresh greens, salad greens, fruits, tomatoes, berries, and vegetables, depending on the year and the harvest.
UBC Farm Market at the UBC Farm (seasonal – May to October)

The last urban working farm in Canada. Several acres large with gardens, orchards, and several chicken coops. The farmers market features produce grown at the farm and several local artisans or produce vendors. Very popular but small market that sells out of items quite quickly.
